Fundamentals of Crane Motor Control
Single-speed systems drive the crane motor directly at full speed with no gradual transitions. This causes severe mechanical shocks to the overhead crane structure and the lifted load.
On the other hand, an Inverter Control (VFD - Variable Frequency Drive) system adjusts electrical frequency gradually for smooth start and stop operations, drastically minimizing load swing.
Load Placement Precision and Operational Safety
Inverter control provides micro speed controls (inching), which are extremely useful for placing heavy loads in dense production areas. This reduces the risk of accidents caused by sudden load shifts.
In terms of safety and spare part lifespan, inverters reduce wear on mechanical brakes and limit initial electric current surges, preventing overload on factory power grids.
